Banana Bread French Toast That Will Knock Your Socks Off!

Did you know such a delicious thing existed? I didn’t until my first visit to IHOP. I am a huge banana bread lover, and who doesn’t like french toast?? Put the two together and it’s like heaven on earth! It’s so good it’ll knock your socks off, and just the thought of it later will have your mouth watering!

I never did see it at IHOP again after that first visit all those years ago. I mean, I’ve only been two or three times ever, so that might not be saying much, but each visit was years apart. Banana bread is a frequently made baked good around here because we all love it, and it’s great – really – but sometimes you just want something a little different. After years of forgetting banana bread french toast was a thing, it popped into my head earlier this year, and when made it for my kids…oh boy, to say they’re obsessed is a major understatement!

This is something you are definitely going to want to try for yourself. It’s so easy to make and SO worth the short amount of time it takes to make; it only takes 30 minutes! You’ll never want to go back to regular old french toast after trying this.

You’re going to want to have some amazing banana bread, because your banana bread french toast can only be as good as your banana bread will allow. Here’s my tried and true banana bread recipe to get you off to the perfect start!

Ingredients

  • 1 loaf banana bread
  • 3 eggs
  • 2 tablespoons milk
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt, heaping
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla (I use imitation)
  • Powdered sugar (optional, but totally recommended!)

Directions

  1. Cut banana bread into 1/2-3/4 inch slices.
  2. In a small bowl, scramble eggs with milk, salt, vanilla, and cinnamon.
  3. Preheat electric griddle to 325℉ or heat a large skillet on the stove with medium heat.
  4. Lightly soak each slice of banana bread in the egg mixture, flipping to cover all sides, then place them onto a greased griddle/skillet.
  5. Cook for 5-7 minutes per side, or until nicely browned.
  6. Sprinkle with a little powdered sugar before serving – no butter necessary – and enjoy!
